Despite growing rumours of a potential return to Getafe, Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche is determined to fight for his place at Crystal Palace, according to reports from Footy Africa.
The 22-year-old Nigerian joined the Premier League side from Getafe on transfer deadline day, but his limited game time has sparked speculation about an early exit. However, close sources have now confirmed that Uche remains fully committed to succeeding in England.
A Controversial Transfer Turned Tough Challenge

Uche’s switch from La Liga to the Premier League was one of the more dramatic deadline-day moves of the summer. Initially reluctant to sell, Getafe eventually agreed to a season-long loan deal with an obligation to buy, reportedly worth €17.5 million, due to financial constraints.
At the time, Palace boss Oliver Glasner viewed Uche as a direct replacement for Eberechi Eze, who departed for Arsenal in a €69.3 million transfer. Yet things haven’t gone as planned.
Since his arrival at Selhurst Park, Uche has managed just 67 minutes of playing time across all competitions. He is yet to start a match this season, even with Palace juggling domestic and European fixtures.
Social Media Sparks Exit Rumours
The midfielder’s lack of opportunities has fueled whispers of frustration. Those rumours intensified when Uche “liked” a social media post suggesting he could be headed back to Spain.
However, reports now indicate that the Nigerian international has no intention of leaving London, at least not this season. Sources close to the player insist that Uche remains focused on earning Glasner’s trust and securing a long-term role in the Palace setup.
Why a Return to Getafe Is Off the Table
Financially, a reunion with Getafe seems nearly impossible. The Spanish club’s deal with Crystal Palace includes a mandatory purchase clause, meaning the Eagles are obliged to complete Uche’s transfer at the end of the season.
Due to accounting rules, Getafe have already recorded the sale as completed; a move that helped them navigate their financial difficulties earlier in the campaign. That means they can’t reverse the transaction or afford to bring Uche back, even on loan.
Uche’s Path Forward at Palace
For now, the talented midfielder must focus on adapting to the physicality and pace of the Premier League. Palace’s midfield remains highly competitive, but Uche’s versatility and technical quality could yet earn him valuable minutes as the season progresses.
Determined to prove himself, Uche is expected to continue working hard in training as he targets a breakthrough before the end of the year.
